Mr. Makis Tsitas, author of the awarded with European Union Prize for Literature ‘God is my Witness’, which has its premiere in Polish in February visited Poland in mid-April (16-22/4/2018) to have his first author tournee in Poland. The author has visited four cities (Warsaw, Kraków, Poznań and Wrocław) and one town (Kutno). In each place he met readers, having six meetings altogether on a whole tour. 

All the meetings were held as moderated talks with Q&A panels, reading excerpts from the book and was being translated either simultaneously (Karolina Berezowska and Georgios Kissas/ Warsaw) or consecutively (Rita Winiarska/ Kraków, Barbara Klik/ Kutno, Nina Trzaska/ Poznań & Wrocław).

Moderators (Przemysław Kordos/ Warsaw, Michał Nogaś/ Warsaw, Łukasz Wojtusik/ Kraków, Kama Buchalska/ Kutno, Szczepan Kopyt/ Poznań and Michał Bzinkowski, translator of the book/ Wrocław) have been asking Mr. Tsitas about the writing process, language created for the book, the construction of the main hero and his place in Greece circa 2004.

The reception of the book both in Greece, in Poland and in other countries has also been the topic, as well as the up to date context in which the book has been published in Polish edition.

Makis Tsitsas was born in Giannitsa in 1971. He holds a journalism degree and he worked as a radio producer in radio stations in Thessaloniki. Since 1994 he has permanently settled in Athens, Greece and has been occupied with publishing activities. He was the editor-in-chief of Periplous magazine (1994-2005) and a co-publisher and director of the magazine of Index magazine (2006-2011). Since 2012 Makis Tsitas he has been the founder and managing director of Diastixo.gr an online magazine for culture and books.

He is in the Board of Directors of the Greek Writers Society. His literary texts have been included in anthologies, published in magazines and newspapers and translated into many languages. His theatrical plays were directed by Ersi Vassilikiotis, Sofia Karagiannis, Taru Makela and Alexandru Mazgareanu. His lyrics were composed by George Stavrianos, Takis Soukas and Tatiana Zografou. He has published twenty one literary books, eighteen of those for children. For his novel God Is My Witness, (Kichli Publishing, 2013) he was awarded the European Union Prize for Literature in 2014 and was honored by the City of Athens, the Municipality of Pella, the Municipality of Edessa, the Public Central Library of Edessa and the Region of Central Macedonia. His book God Is My Witness has already been published in 7 languages (Polish, Serbian, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Scandinavian, Albanian, Croatian) and is about to be released in another 5 in the near future.
